Water damage does not immediately cause the wall structure to fail. As part of our product testing, drywall walls using SORIWA Multi profiles were constructed in such a way that the lower sections of the walls were deliberately submerged in water for several centimeters – to simulate typical damage scenarios. Once the moisture had receded, the profiles dried out, and their original dimensional stability was restored. Whether the wall needs to be repaired must be assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on the extent of the damage – just as with any other drywall system.

The SORIWA Multi Profile is classified as building material class E in accordance with DIN EN 13501-1 and is therefore approved for use in interior construction in Germany.
In tested wall constructions with double sheathing using a gypsum board (GKB) or fiber-reinforced gypsum board (GKF), fire resistance classes EI30 and EI60 according to DIN EN 13501-2 are achieved, depending on the design.

As part of the acoustic tests conducted in accordance with DIN EN ISO 717-1, the following sound reduction indices (Rw) were determined for the SORIWA Multi Profile: 44.2 dB for single-layer cladding and 52.3 dB for double-layer cladding.

Getting Started & Understanding the System

The SORIWA Multi-System represents a completely new approach to interior construction. At its core is the SORIWA Multi Profile, a multi-layered fiber profile that can be stapled, which, together with the SORIWA Connector and the SORIWA Core, forms a modular system – replacing all the traditional components (CW, UW, UA) of a conventional stud frame. The result: a completely steel-free drywall system – easy to install, resource-efficient, and with a significantly reduced risk of injury due to the elimination of sharp-edged metal profiles.

  • One profile instead of three: replaces the entire conventional steel or wood framing
  • Safe to use: no sharp edges, minimized risk of injury, comfortable to the touch, lightweight
  • No changeover: familiar machining with standard tools, fine- and coarse-threaded screws, and the usual procedures
  • Climate-friendly: made from recycled cellulose with a negative carbon footprint (EPD)
  • Forward-thinking: recyclable and resource-efficient

In the SORIWA Hybrid-System, SORIWA Multi Profiles replace the steel-based CW profiles. The UW and UA profiles are still made of steel. Our SORIWA Multi Profiles are precisely designed to fit standard metal profiles. This allows up to 80% of the steel in a wall construction to be replaced.

Yes, the SORIWA Multi Profile is a product approved by the building authorities. It has a general building approval (abZ) and bears the Ü mark. This means it may generally be installed in Germany without restriction.

Certified documentation is available for the relevant application (e.g., wall constructions) regarding sound insulation, fire performance, emissions, and mechanical load-bearing capacity. The profile can therefore also be used in projects with special requirements.

The SORIWA Connector is a functional plug-in element that, when used in conjunction with the SORIWA Multi Profile, can be employed as both a CW and an UW profile.

The SORIWA Core is a precisely fitting square timber that is inserted directly into the SORIWA Multi Profile in the area of door openings. It provides additional stability and creates a continuous support surface for the cladding. When used together, the system replaces a traditional UA profile – completely steel-free.

Yes, all SORIWA products have undergone extensive testing and evaluation – both internally during development and by independent organizations. You can find proof of their quality and sustainability directly on each product page, where technical documents and EPDs are available for download.

Applications & Technical Specifications

No. SORIWA Multi Profiles are currently approved only for non-load-bearing interior walls.

SORIWA Multi Profiles, including the connectors, have undergone the same certification tests as traditional steel profiles. They are structurally sound for non-load-bearing interior walls in accordance with DIN 4103-1.
Bracket loads – for example, for mounting a television – were also determined and evaluated as part of the standard tests. The permissible loads depend on the specific wall construction (e.g., profile width 50/75/100 mm, single or double sheathing, with OSB reinforcement if applicable). The minimum requirements according to installation zones EB1 (0.4 kN/m) and EB2 (1.0 kN/m) are met.

If you plan to use the SORIWA Multi Profile as a replacement for UA profiles, you will also need the SORIWA Core for reinforcement. This is inserted precisely into the SORIWA Multi Profile and, when combined with angle brackets attached to the floor and ceiling, provides the necessary stability. Please feel free to contact us for structural details or project-specific solutions.

The SORIWA Multi Profile can be used directly in place of a conventional underwater profile. It performs the same function in the frame construction while being steel-free and resource-efficient. The SORIWA Connector, made from recycled cellulose fibers and screwed onto the end of the SORIWA Multi Profile, connects the profiles. It creates a stable yet flexible connection between multiple SORIWA Multi Profiles. This allows the SORIWA Multi Profile to be used as a fully-fledged replacement for traditional UW and CW profiles in drywall construction.

The SORIWA Multi Profile can also be used in a hybrid system – in combination with UW or UA steel profiles. This allows up to 80% of the steel in the wall to be replaced – without compromising structural stability.

The SORIWA Connector is required so that the SORIWA Multi Profile can also be used as an UW and CW profile. This functional plug-in element connects two profiles (CW and UW) with a form-fit connection, thereby enabling their use as floor or ceiling connection profiles. In this way, a single profile (SORIWA Multi Profile) becomes a complete, versatile drywall system – suitable for both CW and UW applications.

The goal of the SORIWA Multi-System is to replace the wide variety of traditional drywall profiles with a single, well-designed solution. The SORIWA Connector allows the Multi Profile to be used as both a CW and an UW profile – thus laying the foundation for a completely steel-free drywall system.

Yes, SORIWA Multi Profiles, when used in combination with the SORIWA Connector, have undergone the same certification tests as conventional steel profiles. They meet the structural requirements for non-load-bearing interior walls in accordance with DIN 4103-1.

The SORIWA Core is a precisely fitted wooden frame that is inserted directly into the SORIWA Multi Profile. It provides the profile with the necessary stability for door installations. Functionally, together with the SORIWA Multi Profile, it serves the same purpose as a UA profile in traditional drywall construction.

The SORIWA Header Track can be used for the following door opening widths: min. 770 mm, 895 mm, and max. 1,020 mm.

System Architecture & Components

Yes, the SORIWA Multi Profile can be used in areas subject to temporary moisture exposure (e.g., domestic bathrooms up to max. water exposure class W0-I and W1-I) in combination with suitable gypsum boards (GKBI) and professional sealing in accordance with DIN 18534-1.

Yes, when exposed to prolonged contact with water, the cellulose fibers absorb moisture, which can cause the profile to expand slightly, BUT not to a critical extent. However, thanks to the water-resistant binder used, the fibers remain structurally bonded, so that the original dimensional stability is restored once the material dries.

All components of a traditional drywall system are sensitive to moisture – whether due to mold growth on gypsum boards and insulation materials or corrosion of steel profiles. SORIWA Multi Profiles are also not designed to withstand prolonged moisture exposure.
As part of official long-term tests conducted at testing institutes – based on Service Class 2 according to DIN EN 1995-1-1 – the profiles were tested under conditions where the relative humidity exceeds 85% for several weeks a year, as occurs in covered, open structures. The profiles showed no signs of mold growth, nor did the fasteners lose the necessary hold.

Installation & Finishing

Yes, the 62.5 cm grid dimension can be used in installation zone 1 – that is, in areas with normal foot traffic such as apartments, hotel rooms, offices, hospital rooms, or similar spaces, including hallways.

The layout of the panel joints (installation pattern) follows standard drywall practices and is comparable to that of conventional materials.

Mechanical tests in accordance with DIN 4103-1 have been successfully conducted for installation zones 1 and 2 up to a wall height of 4 m. Our stock items for all three profile variants are available in lengths of 3.00 m, 3.50 m, and 4.00 m. We are happy to supply custom lengths upon request.

All standard drywall screws with coarse or fine threads (Ø 3.5 mm, length > 25 mm) are suitable for installation.

The SORIWA Multi Profile can be easily cut to size using any standard tools—such as a miter saw, tin snips, or similar tools.

All standard gypsum boards (GKB, GKBI) as well as gypsum fiber boards, wood-based panels (e.g., OSB), clay building boards, and straw boards are compatible.

Yes, that’s no problem at all. You can easily choose the position of the cable opening yourself – just drill a hole in the desired spot using a hole saw. Make sure to leave a gap of about 30 cm between the opening and the floor or ceiling, and about 1 cm between the opening and the edge of the profile.
The stability and structural integrity of the SORIWA Multi Profiles have been tested for the following cutout sizes. This results in the following maximum cutout sizes:

SORIWA Multi Profile 50 = Cutout ≤ 28×50 mm; Drill hole Ø 20 mm
SORIWA Multi Profile 75 = Cutout ≤ 53×75 mm; Drill hole Ø 53 mm
SORIWA Multi Profile 100 = Cutout ≤ 78×100 mm; Drill hole Ø 70 mm

Another advantage: Our profiles have no sharp edges. This not only protects pipes, cables, and other components from damage, but also keeps workers’ hands safe during installation.

The SORIWA Connector slides into the ends of the SORIWA Multi Profiles without the need for tools. Its shape ensures a form-fit connection, and it is then secured with screws on the back side.

The SORIWA Core is a precisely fitted wooden frame that is inserted directly into the SORIWA Multi Profile – no additional fastening is required. It provides the profile with the necessary stability for door installations and, when combined with the SORIWA Multi Profile, serves the function of a traditional bottom rail. It is secured to the floor and ceiling using a bracket.

The SORIWA Core simply clips into the SORIWA Multi Profile – no special tools required. For additional security, a screw can be inserted at any point if needed.

Secure the SORIWA Header Track at the desired height using either a single-sided adhesive strip or, alternatively, a screw through the profile. Both methods ensure secure positioning during installation.

For proper storage, SORIWA Multi Profiles should be kept dry, flat, and ideally in their original packaging. Direct contact with water must be avoided. If stored outdoors for a short period, a waterproof cover is required.
As a general rule: Store the profiles just as you would store gypsum board – not in the rain or snow, and not on damp surfaces. Temporary increases in humidity generally do not pose a problem for SORIWA Multi Profiles. In accordance with Service Class 2 per DIN EN 1995-1-1, the profiles were tested under climatic conditions where relative humidity exceeds 85% for only a few weeks per year – comparable to covered, open structures. The profiles showed no mold growth. In such situations, many cladding materials react much more sensitively.

Materials & Sustainability

Our multi-layered SORIWA Multi Profiles are made from recycled cellulose combined with a wet-strength binder. The controlled alignment of the cellulose fibers gives the material its high dimensional stability – while keeping its weight low (20% lighter than a comparable steel profile). The use of additional biocides or fire retardants has been deliberately avoided – with a focus on healthy living, sustainability, and resource conservation. A patent application has been filed for the product and the manufacturing process.

Like the SORIWA Multi Profile, the SORIWA connector is made of multi-layered, compressed recycled cellulose combined with a water-resistant binder. Here, too, the use of additional biocides or fire retardants has been deliberately avoided—ensuring a sustainable, healthy-living solution for drywall construction.

The SORIWA Core consists of kiln-dried spruce framing lumber with four rough-sawn sides. The wood moisture content of approximately 18% (KD) ensures dimensional stability, a precise fit, and minimal warping when used in building systems.

Like the SORIWA Multi Profile, the SORIWA Header Track is made from recycled fiber pulp combined with a water-resistant adhesive.

According to the EPD, SORIWA Multi Profile panels sequester more CO₂ than is emitted during their production. As a result, they sequester carbon dioxide within the building.

Total GWP (kg CO2-eq./linear meter) Modules A1–A3:
SORIWA Multi Profile 50 = –0.231
SORIWA Multi Profile 75 = –0.272
SORIWA Multi Profile 100 = –0.327

Yes, an EPD is available for the SORIWA Multi Profile, which you can download here.
